Beach waves make a great, hassle-free summer look. Although this hairstyle looks best on layered hair, it can be adapted to any hair type. All you need are a few simple tools and a little patience, in order to look fabulous with this effortless day-to-night ‘do!
You will need…
A curling iron or flat iron
A texturizing spray: try Shu Uemura Liquid Fabric Mineral Texture Spray, £21.50
Heat protection serum: go for ghd Heat Protect Spray, £9.95
Step 1. Begin by prepping dry, unwashed hair with heat protection serum. Then, massage texturizing spray into your hair: this will create the necessary volume to work with.
Step 2. Section the top layer of your hair and clip it into place. Create waves by grabbing small sections of hair and loosely twisting them around your curling iron. Hold for a few seconds, and release by pulling the curling iron downwards. Apply spray to each section upon styling.
For a less tousled style, use a flat iron to create loose crimps: clamp the flat iron onto sections of hair and slide it down, rocking it 360 degrees in backward and forward motions. Apply spray to each section of hair.
Release sectioned hair and repeat.
Step 3. Complete your look by scrunching your waves for a more natural, straight off the beach effect. Remember that the key to this style is to not overwork it, as you want to keep it looking natural and slightly messy.
Hint: if your hair is naturally curly, begin by prepping it with serum to prevent frizz. Lightly and quickly run your flat iron through each section, making sure not to remove the shape of the curl entirely: this will flatten and lengthen your curls, as well as create an easy crimped look.
How will you be rocking your beach waves?
