How To: Fake Looking Awake

No one wants to hear that they look tired. Whether it’s a fun night out with the girls, a looming deadline at work or you’ve been up all night with the kids, BBx’s Grace reveals some of her favourite tricks to hide bags, dark circles and less-than-glowing skin, so you can fake it till you make it:

If getting out of bed in the morning is a struggle, try Aromatherapy Associates’ Revive Body Wash. Grapefruit, peppermint and neroli are expertly blended in this refreshing and invigorating gel – I use it every morning and love the spring it adds to my step!

Origins GinZing Energy-Boosting Moisturiser is a lightweight, oil-free formula that instantly hydrates, containing skin-boosting ginseng and coffee beans to jumpstart lack-lustre skin. The morning after cocktails with the girls, I grab this to ensure a healthy, vibrant complexion and no-one in the Birchbox office is any the wiser.

The first sign of a bad night’s sleep is often tired eyes, but there are a few quick fixes that can help. If you’re suffering from red or puffy eyes, pop a gel mask into the fridge for an hour or so to de-puff and reduce redness. An eye-brightening concealer, like Bobbi Brown’s Tinted Eye Brightener, has pink undertones to cancel out the blue-purple shades that crop up under weary eyes.

For on-going eye care, dr. brandt’s Time Arrest Eye Serum is a high-tech hydrating and reconstructing treatment that decreases the appearance of under-eye bags and fine lines. Pat around the orbital bone with your ring finger – which uses the most gentle pressure – morning and night.

Long fluttery lashes open up the eyes and make them appear more awake. Laura Mercier’s Long Lash Mascara lifts the shortest of lashes and holds a curl all day without budging.

Blusher is key for transforming dull, lifeless skin – a pop of colour on the cheeks will freshen up any complexion. Liz Earle Beauty Co.’s Healthy Glow Cream Blush does exactly what it says on the tin – nourishing vitamin E helps this creamy formula glide onto cheeks for a dewy, healthy finish. Nectar, a vibrant rose, is my go-to ‘wake me up’ shade.

For extra glow, add a light-reflecting illuminator to the high points of your face, like the tops of cheeks and brow bones. theBalm Cosmetics Mary Lou-Manizer contains a finely-pigmented shimmer that easily – and subtly! – blends into the skin.
