Eyeshadow Through The Eras

There are some beauty products that never go out of style, and eyeshadow is one of them! The secret? Switching up the way that you apply it, depending on the era that you’re taking inspiration from. Layer it on and smudge it out for a 90s-inspired grunge look or keep it nice and natural for a laidback 70s feel. To help you experiment, we’ve included a full-size The Beauty Crop Eyeshadow Trio in every February Birchbox. Here are 3 different ways to rock this Birchbox-exclusive treat…

Natural glow

When it came to eyeshadow, the ‘70s were all about experimenting with new looks – and, luckily, that’s where palettes like this the one from The Beauty Crop really come into their own! Here, we’ve applied the lightest shade all over the eyelid and right up to the brow bone to channel that laidback, barely-there look made famous by Farrah Fawcett. The subtle shimmer gives a nod to the glitz and glamour of Studio 54, too!

Defined drama

Between layers of mascara and heavy slicks of liner, there’s no doubt that the 80s were all about the eyes. In fact, the smokier the better! Now it’s time to bring that drama into the 21st century with The Beauty Crop Eyeshadow Trio. We blended the middle shade all over the lid and up to the crease, using a fluffy brush for a diffused edge. Then we applied the lightest shade to the inner corner of the eye and above the crease to open up the eyes and had a playful pop of brightness.

Sultry smoke

There was one colour on everyone’s eyes (and cheeks and lips) in the 90s – brown. Luckily, espresso-coloured shades have really stood the test of time as demonstrated by the coffee-inspired shade in The Beauty Crop Eyeshadow Trio. To create that lived-in approach to colour, apply the lightest shade all over the lid with a fluffy brush then use an angled brush to apply the darkest shade along the upper and lower lash lines. Blend out the edges with your finger tips to amp up the grunge factor.
