The 4 Extra Skincare Products Worth Adding to Your Routine

You’ve nailed your basic skincare lineup. Give yourself a pat on the back – it’s not easy. While the essentials are the essentials for a reason, there’s no shortage of other products that make for great additions to your daily (and nightly) routine. It’s not that you need them, per se, but they can make a huge difference in transforming your complexion. So, here’s a breakdown of four categories to consider and some of our favourite products in each.

The Product: Mask

What it does: Brightens, purifies, and/or hydrates your skin in minutes.
How to use it: Slather it on all over (or, if it’s a sheet mask, place it over your face), then kick back and relax while it does its thang. Netflix and mask, anyone?
When to use it: Once or twice a week, or as a quick skin pick-me-up before a big event.
Try: Sand & Sky Brilliant Skin™ Purifying Pink Clay Mask

The Product: Toner

What it does: Helps removes any excess oil or grime that your cleanser may have missed. Some formulas are also made to hydrate the skin.
How to use it: Apply a few drops onto your fingertips and gently press into your skin. Contrary to popular belief, squirting it onto a cotton pad first is a waste of product, since the pad will simply soak up most of it.
When to use it: Post-cleansing, before applying any other skincare or make-up.
Try: Caudalie Moisturizing Toner

The Product: Serum

What it does: Anything and everything. More lightweight than a moisturiser, it typically contains much higher amounts of active ingredients that can treat any and every skincare concern.
How to use it: First, find one that meets your specific skincare needs. Apply it onto cleansed skin, before moisturiser; it won’t be able to soak into skin if you do it the other way around.
When to use it: Morning and/or night.
Try: Lumene Nordic C [Valo] Glow Boost Essence

The Product: Eye Cream

What it does: Treats skin issues that crop up around your eyes (think: puffiness, dark circles, and crow’s feet).
How to use it: Using your ring finger (typically your least strong finger), pat a tiny amount around each eye. The skin in this area is super delicate, so you want to be extra-cautious not to rub or tug on it.
When to use it: Morning and/or night.
