As a real tanning newbie (I’ve never ventured any further than moisturisers with a ‘hint’ of colour – and even they tend to streak on my pasty complexion!) the thought of having a professional spray tan was nerve-wracking to say the least. Would I end up looking like a tangerine? Would my S.O. laugh at me? So many questions, so little tan… So, when the lovely team at Vita Liberata offered to swing by Birchbox HQ to show us how it’s done I felt like there was no better time to bite the bullet and hit the tanning booth! Here’s how I got on…
THE TAN: The lovely VIP Tanning and Skin Finishing Expert, Clara, explained that she would be using Vita Liberata’s pHenomenal Anti Age Spray Tan Solution during the treatment which is available in shades Light, Medium, and Dark. Containing HyH20 Technology, it not only promises to develop a natural golden tan on your skin but it fights the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and dryness. Bonus: it also incorporates Odour Remove™ technology for zero smell and an innovative Moisture Locking System for 72 hour hydration! After chatting with Tara about the shade I wanted to go for (she advised that you pick based on the colour you want to be, not on your current skin tone) I opted for Medium and we got down to business!
THE SPRAY: Admittedly, the thought of stripping down to your knickers in front of a stranger isn’t the most relaxing one but Clara immediately put me at ease! After stepping onto some strange sticky pads to stop the soles of my feet from turning orange, I stepped into the tanning booth. To begin, Clara told me exactly how to hold my arms to get the most even tan and then she started spraying! I was instructed to change position at various times throughout the tan (but, don’t worry, there was no contortion necessary) and the whole thing was over and done with in less than 5 minutes – super quick, and super easy! I slipped straight back into my clothes afterwards and was back at my desk in minutes. Result!
THE RESULTS: Immediately, I noticed that my skin had a gorgeous golden glow (honestly, I couldn’t stop looking at it!) and by the end of the day it had developed into a much deeper bronze shade. Clara advised me to avoid contact with water for around 9 hours so by the time I got home that evening it was time to shower it off. I was worried that this would be the part with the most hassle but, actually, it took only a couple of minutes for the water to run clear and it didn’t leave behind any mess in the shower! I patted my skin dry, applied an oil-free moisturiser, and hey presto – subtly sun-kissed skin! I loved that the colour left behind was so natural, and adjusted perfectly to suit my skin tone. Am I a spray tan convert? Absolutely! In the mean time, I’ll be topping up my glow with the Vita Liberata Fabulous Self Tanning Gradual Lotion.
