This year, we’ve seen 21-year-old model Karlie Kloss everywhere. She’s part of the new model supergroup, alongside pals Cara Delevingne, Jordan Dunn et al, taking up where Cindy Crawford and co. left off in the 1990s. Contributing writer Natalie Peck explains why Karlie is her latest style crush:
Move over Kardashians, there’s a new KK in town. To me, Karlie Kloss epitomises the word ‘model’ – with her It-haircut, mile-long legs and dazzling smile – yet remains refreshingly ordinary.
After walking the catwalk for a few years, Karlie hit headlines in March when she chopped her wavy locks into a tousled asymmetric bob – a headache for the Victoria’s Secret team who had to add in hair extensions for their famous runaway show the next day, but a landmark moment in Karlie’s career. I love that haircut. It made me want to chop off my own hair despite the fact I know I cannot pull off a bob of any description.
Karlie is such an appealing style icon because she defines normal – no, wait, seriously! Sure, she’s 6’1″ with endless legs and an ethereal glow, but she represents a wholesome, all American look. She pulls off designer on the street but always anchored with something a little more wearable – boyfriend jeans and a casual tee with skyscraper heels, a structured dress with some printed flats. That aspirational high/low mix I love. She’s so young and yet carries herself with the grace of someone much older, without ageing herself with clothing choices beyond her years.
Plus, anyone who posts pictures of her dad at Disneyland on Instagram has my seal of approval…
STEAL KARLIE’S STYLE:
Karlie’s bob is always on the right side of effortless – to achieve her silky tousled waves yourself, Electric Hair’s Electric Hydrate Shampoo and Conditioner is packed with enriching ingredients, like jojoba oil, for bouncy shiny locks. Spray in some Bumble and bumble surf spray to get a more defined beachy curl.
Karlie’s job means that her skin needs to be ready for anything – a bikini shoot in December, anyone? To get firm, soft limbs, try massaging in one of Laura Mercier’s luxurious Crème Body Scrubs to dry skin before taking a shower or bath – this will stimulate blood circulation and remove dead skin. Finish with a nourishing body lotion, Korres’ Body Butters are super rich and smell divine!
