Life Lessons From Our Mums

It goes without saying that mums are awesome! But, in honour of Mother’s Day this weekend we thought we’d take a little extra time to shout about exactly how incredible they are. (We know, we know, Dads are great too – but they’ll get their moment in June!) Let’s face it, for many of us our mums are our earliest role models, friends, confidants, and advisors – and (we’ll admit it) they have a habit of always being right. To mark the occasion, we asked the Birchbox staffers what lessons they’ve learnt from their mums over the years. Here’s what they came up with…

“The main beauty advice that I have from my mum is to always remove all of my make-up before going to sleep – no excuses! Plus, to sometimes visit a Dermatologist for more thorough skin cleansing. It’s the best way to achieve beautiful skin.” – Prescillia, Senior Sales & Account Manager

“When it comes to beauty; always take time to cleanse, tone and moisturise (even after a night on the town!). In life; there are good decades and bad ones, but there’s no need to be afraid of your 30s – it’s the best yet!”-
Lou, Senior Creative Design Executive

“My mum always told me to invest time in myself and my beauty regime. Whether that was face or hair masks once a week, getting a little mani-pedi, or taking the time to indulge in a getting ready routine before an event or night out, she taught me the importance of investing in yourself on the outside for self-worth on the inside. (She’s a psychotherapist – can you tell??)” – Jess, Content & Creative Director

“My mum is like queen of hair and beauty tips! My fave one is to always take your make-up off at night – cleanse and tone no matter how tired you are and you won’t regret it in the morning.” – Carly, Discovery Specialist

“My mum is the MOST positive influence on my life and her ‘it’s the little things that count’ approach to happiness has definitely rubbed off on me. She’s definitely the reason that I’m content being curled up at home with a cup of tea and a good book! Most importantly, when it comes to big life decisions, she’s always told me to do what makes me happy – even if it might not be the route that others expect.” – Mica, Senior Content Executive

“The advice my mum gave me was to never over pluck my eyebrows. (Hers are basically non-existent!) She is an angel for giving me this advice – and it’s why I now have werewolf style brows!” – Beth, Senior PR & Partnerships Executive

“My mum’s advice is to always make sure your foundation is blended properly into your neck – avoiding that telltale orange line around your face! She’s always rubbing my face colour into my neck when I see her. It’s no secret that I can go a little overboard in the quest for a more sun-kissed complexion…!” – Emeline, Senior Brand Manager

“Never buy something that you wouldn’t be able to buy twice in one go.” – Amina, Discovery Specialist

“My mum always told me to look after my skin – moisturise, moisturise, moisturise! For as long as I remember she’s always added a few drops of baby oil to a bath, and without fail moisturises every single day! Her skin is perfect, and she definitely does’t look her age!” – Paige, Community Discovery Specialist
